MANILA, Philippines– Chery Tiggo redeemed itself from an upset in its previous game with a 21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-20 come-from-behind victory against Farm Fresh in the PVL All-Filipino-Conference on Saturday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Cess Robles and Ara Galang paved the way with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Robles nailed 16 attacks, three aces and two blocks while Galang, who was motivated to do better coming from a loss, punched in 15 points, four blocks and an ace.

“In principle, [the fund] is already approved. We are looking for the funding source. There are several options … but I cannot disclose details about it yet because I am not sure,” Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. told reporters in a mix of Filipino and English.

The grand opening of the 60-hectare Domaine Evremond vineyard, situated on a quiet hillside in Kent, received the royal seal of approval, with the Duchess of Edinburgh Sophie in attendance.

Cza Carandang was effective from the middle with 12 points as Alina Bicar tossed 15 excellent sets. Karen Verdeflor, who did well to cover for Jen Nierva who hurt her knee last game, caught 24 excellent digs to help the Crossovers improve to a 5-3 record, tied with Choco Mucho.

“We talked about how the third set [last game] was a wasted opportunity, so we agreed that we couldn’t let that happen again because it would just repeat itself. This time, we did everything to make sure we won in four sets,” Robles said.

Galang came in extra motivated after a quiet four-point performance in that same match, and she made sure to not let her team fall to the same result.

“Personally, I had some motivation because, in the last game, I didn’t contribute much. So my mindset this time was that it couldn’t stay that way—I couldn’t let myself not bounce back from the last game,” Galang said.

“This time, I just really pushed myself to contribute, not just in non-scoring points but also in scoring, so that things are more balanced and I can lighten the load for my teammates,” she added.

The Crossovers easily shrugged off that opening frame blunder and did not lift their foot off the gas pedal in the final frame to a 15-10 advantage.

The Foxies retaliated with four straight points, 16-14, and tried to keep up the speed of Chery Tiggo. Shaya Adorador and Joyme Cagande, however, did not want to prolong the affair, scoring off a cross court and an ace.

Trisha Tubu was a lone bright spot for Farm Fresh with 15 points. Janel Delerio caught 16 excellent digs and Alyssa Bertolano had 12. Louie Romero dished out 13 excellent sets but it wasn’t enough to stop the Foxies from dropping to a 3-4 record.
