With the US witnessing hundreds of schools shootings every year, the demand for gun control and similar laws remains at an all-time high. As families continue to reel in from the horrific deaths of children in schools, one parent decided to create a video game which will simulate what victims of school shootings go through.
The parents of a school shooting victim have created a video game called 'The Final Exam'. This game, while simulates a school shooting, the ultimate goal is to raise awareness about gun violence across the United States.
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed his enthusiasm and stated: "This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will give fans an opportunity to witness an intense competition between two of the most formidable teams in the world.
In the game, one plays as a high school student trying to get to safety during an active shooter situation. With a gameplay of 10 minutes, which is the average time a mass shooting lasts, the video game reflects the pressure under the victims of a school shooting to try and get someplace safe.
The game has two endings. In the first ending, if you make it, you are informed of legislative bills which fight for gun control laws, with an option to send it to your respective government official.
If the player dies in the game, the game tells you that you are one of the 170,000 children who die in a school shooting every year.
The game was developed by Manuel and Patricia Oliver, who lost her son Joaquin Oliver in the 2018 Parkland school shooting.
Why A Video Game?Over the years, many politicians have blamed video games for the rise in violence, as opposed to implementing gun control laws and restricting gun violence.
'The Final Exam' is a statement to all those politicians who would blame video games as opposed to taking action.
Speaking to Inverse, Patricia Oliver recalled how much her son enjoyed video games such as Call of Duty, NBA 2K and FIFA. She feels that creating a video game which fights for gun control passes on his legacy and his message.
While video games have had an impact on violence and the young mind, the Olivers' believe when it comes to school and mass shootings, it's more about who has access to the gun.

The entire world plays video games. So why are you going to tell me that the game is the problem? There’s no way I’m going to take that as an answer," she told Inverse.
