betkubi online casino A Fil-Am’s Thanksgiving in Cebu: Celebrating the golden years
CEBU, Philippines — As I reflect on my trip back to Cebu, the Philippines’ oldest city and its first capital, I am overwhelmed by a sense of gratitude and blessing.
This journey was not just a return to my hometown but a celebration of life, love and the connections that bind us to our roots. It’s particularly special as I celebrate my 50th birthday amid the vibrant tapestry of the Queen City of the South, a place that holds my heart.
From the moment I landed, the familiar sights and sounds enveloped me like a warm embrace. The bustling streets of Cebu have transformed since my last visit, with new buildings rising against the skyline and the traffic more chaotic than I remembered.
Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle, there’s a sense of community that makes navigating the chaos feel almost harmonious. It’s a reminder of how life continues to evolve, even in the places we hold dear.

One of the highlights of my trip was the precious time spent with my sister. Together, we explored our old haunts, reminiscing about our childhood while making new memories.
Each corner of the city felt like reconnecting with an old friend, from my favorite breakfast spot, Pusô, where I savored the delicious flavors of Pinoy cuisine, to the serene moments spent in Sunday worship at Gracepoint Christian Fellowship. The service was uplifting, filled with inspiring insights on the 8 Beatitudes, reminding us of the importance of kindness and compassion in our daily lives.
As we gathered with family and friends, I couldn’t help but feel the presence of loved ones who have passed. Their memories linger in our hearts, guiding us and reminding us of the love that transcends time and space. This connection to the past enriches our present and shapes our future.
One of my most treasured moments was reuniting with my college best friend, a fellow USC alumnus. We reminisced about our uni days, sharing laughter over the Pinoy dishes I had missed while living in America. The warmth of friendship and the joy of shared experiences made the celebration of my 50th even more meaningful. It was a gift to be surrounded by those I hold dear in a place that has shaped so much of who I am.
Amid the festivities, I took a moment to visit Chong Hua’s state-of-the-art medical mall for a stubborn cough that had been bothering me. While I wasn’t looking forward to the trip, I was impressed by the facilities and the attentive care I received from Doc Arlene Macabaya. The experience reminded me of the advancements in healthcare in the Philippines, a testament to the progress our nation is making.
ADVERTISEMENTAs I celebrate my milestone birthday, I found myself reflecting deeply on the blessings in life. This Thanksgiving, I embraced a spirit of gratitude for everything I am and everything I’m not. Reaching this golden age is a blessing in itself, and I am thankful to God for the wisdom, love, and kindness that have enriched my journey. Life, with all its ups and downs, is a precious gift that I cherish dearly.
Despite the many challenges we face daily—be it personal struggles, societal issues, or the unpredictability of life—I believe we can still cultivate a mindset of gratitude and positivity. Each challenge presents an opportunity for growth, and it’s important to focus on the silver linings. We can find strength in our communities, draw inspiration from our loved ones, and harness the power of hope for a better future.
Returning to Cebu reaffirmed my belief that home is not just a place; it’s a feeling. It’s the laughter shared over meals, the warmth of family gatherings, and the echoes of memories that linger in the air. As I look ahead, I carry with me the lessons learned from this trip the importance of nurturing our connections, embracing change, and staying grateful in the face of adversity.
Thank you, Ate Zaida, for one of the best birthday gifts ever – a reminder of the beauty of life and the joy of being surrounded by love. As I continue on this journey of life, I am committed to fostering gratitude and positivity, no matter what challenges may come my way. Here’s to celebrating life, love, and the connections that make our hearts full, whether in Cebu or wherever our paths may lead.
